When City Hall says, “We were paying $15,000 for DJs for two weeks… we’re going to have guest DJs,” what they’re really saying is: the solution is unpaid labor.

That’s not how you build a sustainable arts economy — and it’s not how New Orleans should treat the people who make this city what it is. I understand budget cuts. But “work for free” shouldn’t be the plan.

If the city needs savings, there are better options than asking DJs to donate their labor:
• shorten the programming window
• scale production elements back
• cap the number of sets
• seek sponsorship specifically for talent fees
• rotate smaller paid local acts at fair rates

Because the one thing we shouldn’t do in New Orleans is normalize unpaid gigs.

Hindsight is 20/20 and 2025 was my year of TRANSFORMATION.

I started the year getting “laid off” from my corporate job at Microsoft, painfully finalized my divorce, interviewing and applying for dozens of roles that were not aligned to my purpose, and somehow… fell in love, traveled, saw over 60 live music performances (aka church), got a smidgen better at tennis (and competed at State) and said yes A LOT. Then I did the scariest, best thing: I started Lunascend—a lifelong dream to help creative people do more, create more, and give more to the world.

This year taught me a lot about choice—how the decisions I make ripple into the lives of the people I care about. And here’s what I know for sure: I don’t regret my mistakes or the chances I took.

I’m deeply grateful for my health, my family’s health and happiness, and the abundance that’s been around me the whole time. Love leads the way.

I’m so excited for 2026 and the ridiculously talented people I get to work with.

Last night, we hosted a truly inspiring art workshop led by the incredible Marianna Canu — a two-hour journey through the vibrant and imaginative world of her Rebus Multiverse.

Aspiring artists explored the magic of layering acrylic paint, unlocking creativity, and lighting up the right brain through color, intuition, and storytelling. Marianna’s engaging instruction gave us a glimpse behind the scenes of her artistic process — a beautiful blend of technique, imagination, and expression.

💫Backstory 💫
As far back as I can remember, I have been interested in the potential of humans. One of my earliest memories of what I did as a kid for fun was organizing talent shows in my neighborhood and identifying each kids talent in order to host a talent show around my pool. I would charge all of the parents money to get in and then pay the talent. I was 11 years old.

As I moved on in life and in my career, I found myself still intrigued with human potential. I’ve spent the last 20 years of my career in talent development, and adult learning theory. Ultimately ending up in transformation work helping humans understand how to go through change. I feel happiest when I get to utilize my innate gifts with my passion for music and art, I’m thrilled to be able to chase this dream in an authentic and discerning way.
